At present, the methods of handling penicillin bottles in various hospitals are inconsistent. Some are treated as recyclable waste, while others are treated as medical waste. Today, let's talk about how to handle glass bottles produced in hospitals. There are two types of glass medicine bottles produced by medical institutions, one is penicillin bottles and the other is infusion bottles after infusion. The handling methods for these two types of medicine bottles are completely different.
Xilin bottle: a small bottle sealed with a rubber stopper, available in brown, transparent, and other types, usually made of glass material. The bottleneck is relatively thin, and the thickness below the bottleneck is consistent; The bottle mouth is slightly thicker than the neck and slightly thinner than the bottle body. It is generally used as a medicinal injection bottle, oral liquid bottle, etc. (because it was mainly used to contain penicillin in the early days, it is called a "penicillin bottle"). Penicillin bottles are sealed with rubber stoppers and are thicker than ampoules. After use, it is not easy to harm people and is not easily contaminated. Therefore, regulations clearly stipulate that for various glass (disposable plastic) infusion bottles (bags), discarded bottles of penicillin and cephalosporin antibiotics that are not contaminated by patient blood, body fluids, or excreta, they are not considered infectious waste and do not need to be disposed of according to medical waste requirements (if contaminated, they should be disposed of as infectious waste).
